Monday’s NHL card has a total of 9 games taking place, with some fantastic matchups for us to get stuck into.
We are taking a look at the Boston Bruins as home favorites to cover the spread as well as why we believe the Philadelphia Flyers can upset the Carolina Hurricanes as home underdogs and why we are backing Trevor Zegras to continue bringing his shooting gloves.
Picks Summary
- Boston Bruins -1.5 (+150)
- Philadelphia Flyers +1.5 (-130)
- Trevor Zegras Over 2.5 Shots (+130)

Florida Panthers vs. Boston Bruins
Monday, October 30, 2023 – 07:00 PM EDT at TD Garden
Betting Trends
- Boston are 14-5 in their last 19 games against an opponent in the Atlantic Division.
- Boston ranked 5th ATS thus far this season while opponents Florida ranked 22nd.
- The total has gone under in 6 of Boston’s last 8 games.
Bruins Not Slowing Down
We will hold our hand up and be honest, we believed the Boston Bruins would struggle somewhat this season with the loss of Jake DeBrusk and Patrice Bergeron, but in fact, they picked up where they left off last season as they became the top points scorers in the regular season history last year with a total of 135 points.
Although it’s almost certain they won’t hit that many points again this year, they have proven why they are a formidable force, having started the season 7-1 and already top the conference and division.
The Pick
The Florida Panthers have had the Bruins’ number in the previous three meetings winning all three by an aggregate scoreline of 15-12, with just three goals separating the two teams.
The Bruins are likely going to win this game as they are on fire right now and very consistent. Their goaltending has been immense, allowing only 1.5 goals per game (league best) and we honestly could not believe our eyes when we saw the +150 betting odds available on them to win by 2+ goals. We would happily bet this down to +110.
The Panthers can’t be trusted right now and the Bruins are very backable if you don’t mind laying juice; the -140 looks tempting on the moneyline.
NHL Pick: Boston Bruins -1.5 (+150) at Bet365
Carolina Hurricanes vs. Philadelphia Flyers
Monday, October 30, 2023 – 07:00 PM EDT at Wells Fargo Center
Betting Trends
- The Philadelphia Flyers have the 4th best ATS record with 6-2.
- The Carolina Hurricanes ATS record this season is the 26th worst with 3-6.
- Philadelphia are 4-1 in their last 5 games at home.
Hurricanes Playing Below Par
It’s as simple as this, the Flyers are massively underrated here and the Hurricanes are massively overrated. Sure, on paper the Hurricanes are the best, but when teams are going through a rough patch or hot streak, that goes out the window, and right now the Hurricanes are playing far below par while the Flyers are actually playing above par.
The Pick
Only one point separates these two teams, with Carolina on 10 and Philadelphia on 9, but the Flyers do have a game extra to play. We love the Flyers to cash the moneyline at +165 as home underdogs, but an even better prospect is taking the -130 on the PK line.
We usually don’t like the +1.5 line in hockey as it rarely represents value but, in this scenario, we believe there to be some value down to around -150. Does the fact that Philadelphia has the 4th best ATS record and the Hurricanes the 26th worst not say enough?
NHL Pick: Philadelphia Flyers +1.5 (-130) at Bet365
Anaheim Ducks vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Monday, October 30, 2023 – 07:00 PM EDT at PPG Paints Arena
Betting Trends
- Trevor Zegras has averaged 3 shots per game thus far this season.
- Throughout his short NHL career Zegras have averaged a very respectable 2.4 shots per game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
- Zegras has had the 2nd most shots per game on the Ducks team this season.
Zegras to Bring Shooting Gloves Tonight
The Anaheim Ducks have performed much better than anyone expected thus far this season, having gone 4-4, and tonight we are targeting their center Trevor Zegras to go over his shot total line of 2.5 at incredible odds of +130.
We don’t know about you, but for a player who has seen 1/6/0/4/8 shots in his previous five games, +130 seems like a very generous set of odds.
The Pick
Just because the Penguins don’t allow many shots per game doesn’t mean Zegras should be overly priced here, he managed 6 shots against a Boston Bruins team that allows fewer shots than Pittsburgh. The Ducks are on fire right now and on a three-game winning streak; win or lose, this line’s odds are way too high in our opinion.
This is easily bettable down to +100 in our eyes, as we expect Zegras to bring his shooting gloves tonight.
NHL Pick: Trevor Zegras Over 2.5 Shots (+130) at Bet365
