The Padres made a trade with the Chicago White Sox to land Dylan Cease before the season began. It was the right decision.
Cease has a 1.99 ERA to begin the year. But while he’s struggled against lefties a bit, the Rockies’ projected lineup has struggled against righties way more. The projected lineup has struck out 27.6% of the time against righties since last season.
Don’t Sleep on Austin Gomber
To hit the Under, you need both starters to have good days. Austin Gomber isn’t elite. He’s got a 4.95 ERA to begin the season.
However, he’s still earned 48.4% of ground balls and has struck out more than 20% of batters so far this season. In addition, Gomber has only given up 21% of fly ball contact, which is crucial, especially in Coors Field.
While the Padres might score a few runs on Gomber, he’ll do enough to avoid imploding and keep the game lower scoring.
