Connecticut Sun vs. Golden State Valkyries

The Connecticut Sun are headed to Golden State to take on the Valkyries at 10:00 pm ET tonight. Connecticut has ultimately lost its last four games and is currently 5-25 on the season. They’ve been so bad that the team is contemplating moving to Boston in the next few years.
Meanwhile, the Valkyries have defied odds. They’re 15-15 as an expansion team this year. They’ve been able to play solid basketball with a roster full of former bench players. The Valyries have a chip on their shoulder and are still competing for a playoff spot in the WNBA.
That said, the Sun demolished the Valkyries in the latest head-to-head meeting back on 7/27. The Sun won, 96-64, in a game that wasn’t even close. However, the Valkyries added a win in the first-ever meeting earlier this year, 87-63.
Both former games were blowouts, but different teams won. Tonight’s game has the potential to be closer, especially since it’s the final game in the season series between these two teams. For one, Tiffany Hayes has added at least 13 points for the Valkyries in 57% of games this season. She’s got a terrific matchup against one of the worst defenses against guards. The Over 12.5 makes sense.
In addition, Janelle Salaun has recorded at least six rebounds in 45% of games this year. But her matchup against the Sun should help her get to at least six rebounds tonight. That’s another play to consider.
Finally, Cecilia Zandalasini has recorded at least two threes in 69% of games this season. The Sun are also pathetic at defending the three against forwards this season.

The Valkyries are getting quality offense out of Tiffany Hayes this season. She’s scored at least 13 points in five of her last ten games, but has also hit this line in 57% of games this season.
Over the last two games, she’s drawn nine fouls. She’s also played more minutes than her typical average during those two games.
Additionally, she’s taken at least ten shots in back-to-back games. Despite shooting below 40%, the volume will still be there. Ultimately, she’ll get better shots overall against a Sun defense that ranks 12th in the WNBA in points allowed to shooting guards this year.

Janelle Salaun just added eight rebounds against the Los Angeles Sparks last time out. Yet, she still has a line of 5.5 rebounds tonight.
Salaun has earned at least four defensive rebounds in three of her last five games. Meanwhile, it’s likely she’ll get even more opportunity against a Connecticut Sun squad that ranks 12th in total rebounds allowed. They’re not good on the offensive or defensive end when it comes to rebounds.
Salaun should ride some momentum and add at least six rebounds in tonight’s game.

Zandalasini Can Shoot
Cecilia Zandalasini just nailed four threes against the Sparks for the Valkyries last time out. She’s hit at least two threes in six of her last eight games and has taken more than four threes per game over the last ten games.
She’s only shot 38.4% from deep during that time. However, the Sun ranks 9th overall in three-pointers allowed. They’re also 11th in the WNBA in three-pointers allowed to power forwards.
With more open looks, Zandalasini figures to knock down a solid amount of threes tonight. Let’s take her prop for Over 1.5 threes and look for the 3-0 sweep tonight.
