The 2023 Gold Cup kicks off this weekend, and it’ll be the USMNT defending the trophy they won last year. With a lackluster level of opposition in Group A, the Yanks are expected to walk through the competition, finish atop the standings, and advance to the playoff rounds.
Last Sunday saw the USA retain their CONCACAF Nations League title by overcoming Canada 2-0, so we can expect a squad full of confidence and eager to successfully defend another international cup that proudly sits in their trophy cabinet.
Although head coach Gregg Berhalter is temporarily absent, the scandals involving the USMNT didn’t prevent them last time. The successful outing against Canada delivered the team’s sixth win from their last 7 games in all competitions, and this country hasn’t lost a Gold Cup group stage meeting since 2011.
Jamaica
In stark contrast, Jamaica hasn’t won a game since 2023. They did come close to winning the 2015 Gold Cup when they became the first Caribbean nation to reach the final, and again two years later, but couldn’t succeed when faltering against Mexico and the USA, respectively.
Notably, the Reggae Boyz were eliminated from last year’s Gold Cup by the United States 1-0, and they’ve failed to go beyond the group stage of this competition in four consecutive appearances. More worryingly, it’s been over 12 months since Jamaica defeated a country within their region.
CONCACAF Gold Cup Prediction, Odds, & Trends
The Gold Cup betting odds naturally favor the defending champions, but surprisingly the available moneyline price shows excellent value.
The United States arguably owns the most talented roster pool in all of CONCACAF. Despite a collection of their selected talent for the 2023 Gold Cup that hasn’t previously played together, familiarity will be present as all but seven compete in MLS.
The golden generation at Jamaica is winding to a close, and combined with a significant lack of consistency, they’re likely to fall short this weekend as they’re faced with a squad boasting tons of goal-scoring capabilities.

Los Angeles FC is back at BMO Stadium following a 1-0 success over Seattle Sounders last time out. It took them just one minute to open the scoring in this game, as a robust defense made it impossible for their visitors to snap the deficit.
The victory over Seattle put LAFC on a two-game winning streak, and they’re notably undefeated in 17 of their previous 20 domestic fixtures. Home advantage has also been crucial for The Falcons The Black and Gold, and they’re now unbeaten in 20 of their last 22 MLS home games.
Vancouver
Vancouver can also claim the undefeated title from their previous four games. However, looking at the bigger picture, this squad has won just 2 of their last 24 MLS away games, and a trip to Los Angeles with expectations of claiming all three points is slim.
The Whitecaps have lost three consecutive away games in the league, and they’re now faced with the No.1 team in the Western Conference.
MLS Prediction, Odds, & Trends
The MLS odds are providing a respectable moneyline price on LAFC. Vancouver has been stubborn at times, but it’s hard to envision them overcoming such a poor record away from home versus the Western Conferences top placed squad.
LA dominated Vancouver 3-0 at home during a CNL encounter earlier this year, and we expect a similar result this weekend.
