Bruno Silva vs. Joshua Van

UFC 316 Flyweight Preliminary Bout

Saturday, June 07, 2025 – 06:00 PM EDT at Prudential Center

Bruno Silva

Despite holding a UFC contract since 2019, Brazil’s Bruno Silva just hasn’t been a consistent fixture on the UFC schedule. More worryingly, a 4-3 octagon record presents an untrustworthy fighter whose ability to perform against elite-level opponents consistently has yet to be demonstrated.

  • Silva Pro Record: 14-6-2
  • Silva KO/TKO Wins: 6
  • Silva Submission Wins: 4

Joshua Van

Joshua Van returns from an uber impressive performance over Rei Tsuruya. Although he joined the promotion in late 2023, he’s already close to eclipsing the experience of his weekend opponent behind a 6-1, positive UFC record.

I’m still struggling to see where Vans’ overall ceiling will land in the flyweight division. Still, currently, we cannot knock the momentum as he’s returning to the cage following a three-fight win streak where he’s convincingly running through the opposition without it being close!

  • Van Pro Record: 13-2
  • Van KO/TKO Wins: 6
  • Van Submission Wins: 2

Silva vs. Van: Fight Tape Analysis

I want to cut Silva some slack because, despite the negative record, it’s not like he’s been fighting slouches. Last time out, he went toe-to-toe with Manel Kape, and considering the step up in competition, he did hold a respectable account of himself on the feet until the third-round knockout surfaced.

However, in a contest where Van should easily stuff any takedowns or grappling attempts, we can expect a kickboxing contest more often than not, and as a result, it’s difficult to overlook the clean, precise, and high-volume striking that Van has presented in the octagon to date.

Silva does have power, and he will certainly crack Van during points of this fight. Unfortunately, in a numbers game, Van’s combination striking will likely be the difference maker. Not to mention, he throws low kicks more regularly, and when the judges evaluate these men, Van’s volume will be the clear winning factor.

UFC 316 Preliminary Card Odds & Prediction

The UFC pricing with OddsTrader’s top sportsbooks has placed a -500 price tag on Van. While I do believe he’s the favorite, this moneyline price is ridiculous, as is a lot of the prelim UFC lines we’re seeing for this weekend.

As a result, this forces our hand into the prop market. Silva was finished in round three last time out, but that was against Manel Kape, and Van isn’t on that level of finishing capability. Both fighters are durable, and Silva’s chin isn’t something to worry about despite the Kape KO/TKO. So, backing the favorite to win by decision will significantly boost our odds, and ultimately, it feels like the most probable outcome of this bout.

UFC Pick: Van by Decision (-110) [1.10u returns 1u profit] at Bet365

Joo Sang Yoo vs. Jeka Saragih

UFC 316 Featherweight Preliminary Bout

Saturday, June 07, 2025 – 06:00 PM EDT at Prudential Center

Joo Sang Yoo

Joo Sang Yoo will be one of three UFC debutants competing at UFC 316 this weekend, and with the company’s desire to continue pushing the debut market, he could be the perfect fit to put South Korea on the map behind a well-versed and impressive skill set we’ve witnessed on the Asian regional scene.

  • Yoo Pro Record: 8-0
  • Yoo KO/TKO Wins: 3
  • Yoo Submission Wins: 1

Jeka Saragih

Jeka Saragih, also representing the Asian market, booked his ticket onto the UFC roster via Road to UFC. Unfortunately, he’s looked levels below what a UFC-level fighter should look like. Although he found success against a mediocre Lucas Alexander, he’s 1-2 in the octagon, with both losses coming inside the distance.

  • Saragih Pro Record: 14-4
  • Saragih KO/TKO Wins: 9
  • Saragih Submission Wins: 4

Yoo vs. Saragih: Fight Tape Analysis

To me, this fight feels like a complete setup for Yoo to win. UFC matchmakers are serving him one of the easiest opponents on the roster, and the overly juiced moneyline is more than enough evidence that he’s more than capable of impressing the MMA fan base in his UFC debut.

While Yoo only has one submission win to date, watching his fluid transitions on the ground and top control, alongside the fact that he’s a BJJ purple belt, might just present the perfect path to victory.

Why?

Well, it’s quite simple… Saragih’s kryptonite has always been his grappling defense, and it’s a flaw in his game that we can expect to cost him this weekend.

UFC 316 Preliminary Card Odds & Prediction

The UFC pricing with OddsTrader’s top sportsbooks makes Yoo a ridiculously priced underdog when considering we’ve yet to see him compete in the big leagues. However, as previously mentioned, Saragih just isn’t that good.

Whether it’s via ground and pound or submission, I don’t envision Saragih’s defense holding up for all three rounds. With a clear path to victory for the favorite and a questionable durability surrounding the underdog, backing Yoo to win in rounds one or two at -105 feels like a respectable piece of betting value we can get behind.

UFC Pick: Yoo in Round 1 or 2 (-105) [1.05u returns 1u profit] at Bet365

Yoo Round 1/2: Supporting UFC 316 Facts

  • 14 of Saragih’s 18 pro MMA bouts have ended in rounds 1 or 2
  • 3 Saragih’s 4 pro career losses ended in round 1 or 2
  • Yoo has won 2 of his previous 3 MMA bouts in round 1
