USFL Week 10 Odds: Point Spreads, Lines, Results for Every Week 9 Game

The final week of the 2022 USFL regular season has arrived. After nine weeks of action and continuing development, we’re on the verge of postseason football. For those who have tuned into the spring league’s inaugural campaign, this is an especially exciting time.

There’s not much on the line in terms of playoff seeding in Week 10. Unfortunately, nothing will change regardless of this week’s results. But there’s still a major opportunity for bettors to score.

Let’s dive first into what happened in Week 9.

USFL Week 9 Results

New Orleans Breakers 17 – Tampa Bay Bandits 6

The most consequential outcome of the weekend was New Orleans’ 17-6 win over the Tampa Bay Bandits. Just once playoff spot remained entering this game, and New Orleans ripped Tampa’s heart out as they forced four turnovers. New Orleans, at 6-3, will be the second seed in the South Division behind the Birmingham Stallions.

This was not a game without drama for New Orleans, as they again replaced quarterback Kyle Sloter with backup Zach Smith. Smith outplayed Sloter, completing five of six passes for 51 yards and one score. The offense didn’t need to do heavy-lifting thanks to their consistently good field position off turnovers.

For the Bandits, this loss was about their continued inability to produce outside of quarterback Jordan Ta’amu. Ta’amu tossed two interceptions but also produced 376 yards. Receiver Rashard Davis broke out with a monstrous six-reception, 112-yard and one-score performance but it wasn’t nearly enough.

New Jersey Generals 25 – Michigan Panthers 23

Just when you think you know what to expect, the USFL pulls the rug from underneath your feet. The New Jersey Generals were red hot but almost lost to the woeful Michigan Panthers. A game-winning touchdown by receiver Darrius Shepherd saved the Generals from agony.

Michigan certainly made them work for their win. Panthers quarterback Josh Love split time with Eric Barriere instead of Paxton Lynch. The results were mixed at best for each as they had to overcome a largely ineffective run game.

Inaccurate QB Play

The two were both inaccurate but found big plays to help offset a combined three interceptions and a sub-60 percent completion rate. There’s a reason why Michigan sits with just one win, and their mishandling of the offense is a huge part of that. But their feistiness almost paid off.

New Jersey slept through much of this game. Their two-quarterback approach was necessary as DeAndre Johnson has lost grip of his stardom. Luis Perez remains the safer and more consistent option since Johnson injured his leg midway through the year.

New Jersey was able to create a few explosive plays, including a 24-yard touchdown run and the winning score late in the game.

Houston Gamblers 17 – Birmingham Stallions 15

The shocker of the week was seeing the undefeated Birmingham Stallions fall to the lowly Houston Gamblers. We picked Houston to cover last week as Birmingham continued their slump, and that downward trajectory hit a new low. The Stallions couldn’t get their ground game going, and their passing game lacked the bite needed in the red zone to convert scoring opportunities.

Birmingham should still be alright but they’re not the clear favorite to win the USFL anymore. They’ve shown significant flaws in their methods over the last month.

Credit to the Gamblers

Houston deserves significant credit for winning in the red zone. Birmingham completed almost 70 percent of their passes and turned the ball over just once. But a total of five tackles for loss and tough red zone defense kept them in the game just long enough to outlast their foes.

Meanwhile, Houston can take pride in their spirited defensive effort and solid output from quarterback Kenji Bahar. Bahar carried this offense after struggling mightily with consistency.

Philadelphia Stars 17 – Pittsburgh Maulers 16

Coming off a shockingly dominant showing in Week 8, Philadelphia should have blown the lowly Pittsburgh Maulers out this week. They didn’t, though, and narrowly won an ugly, hard-fought battle. A big reason why is that quarterback Case Cookus was knocked out of the game after a rough start and K.J. Costello saw his first USFL action.

The Maulers were swarming all game long. Philadelphia acted like they expected to win and it nearly cost them. A stunning 51-yard touchdown run by Matt Colburn II saved them from a shocking loss to the league’s worst team.

Pittsburgh tried everything they could but still lacked the manpower to form a decent offensive attack. After benching Vad Lee at quarterback for Roland Rivers, the Maulers went back to Lee and received a poor showing. But they’ve never had a clear answer, and it doomed their season.
