Week 6 NCAA College Football Best Bets: USC Favored, Wildcats Aim to Keep It Deceiving

Go west, young man, and do it soon before the PAC-12 dies from realignment. The NCAAF Week 6 betting card includes a trio of games that have revealed winning angles for bettors.

Picks Summary

Washington State Cougars vs. UCLA Bruins

Saturday, October 7, 2023 – 03:00 PM EDT at Rose Bowl

Is the 63rd meeting between Washington State and UCLA destined to be the end of a rivalry? If so, the game is expected to be a close one, with the Bruins only favored slightly on their home turf.

Last 4 in Pasadena: 1-3 O/U

Action at top sportsbooks has been split between the two sides, with UCLA favored by 3½. Scoreboard bettors are faced with a decision in a 59-point total.

It has been four years since these two last played, and it was one of the greatest games in PAC-12 history, ending with a 67-63 UCLA win after the Bruins trailed by 32 in the second half. Washington State was an 18-point favorite in that one and lost despite rolling up 720 total yards.

It has been eight years since the Cougars and Bruins got together in Pasadena, and it was Washington State claiming a road upset with a 31-27 triumph as a 12-point underdog. The Bruins have won six of the last eight, and covered five of those victories.

Cougars, Bruins Coming Out of Bye Week

Washington State took last week off following a mild 38-35 upset of Oregon State in Pullman a week earlier. It was a rare meeting with both schools ranked, and the Cougars rolled up more than 500 yards of offense as Cameron Ward threw for four scores.

The Bruins also come out of their bye after dropping a 14-7 game at Utah in Week 4. Dante Moore suffered a Pick 6 on UCLA’s first play from scrimmage, and the Bruins never could do anything going on the ground against the tough Utes defense.

The Cougars are not expected to have top receiver Lincoln Victor due to an ankle injury, and his absence combined with UCLA’s defense has the ‘under’ looking sweet.

NCAAF Pick: Under 59 (-109) at BetRivers

Colorado Buffaloes vs. Arizona State Sun Devils

Saturday, October 7, 2023 – 06:30 PM EDT at Mountain America Stadium

Good evening, and welcome to another week when the only thing that really matters is what Deion Sanders and his Colorado Buffaloes are doing. Prime and the Buffs – along with their growing entourage – are in the desert this week and expected to bring a dubya back to Boulder.

Sun Devils 1-3 ATS at Home

A quick check of the NCAAF odds board finds the Buffaloes favored by 4 to 4½ and the scoreboard target set at an even 60.

The Sun Devils have won the last two collisions, and taken eight of the 11 meetings as conference opponents. Colorado has covered three of the last four, however, and the last four games in Tempe were scoreboard busters to beat totals in the 45½-57 range.

Buffs Rally Falls Short vs. USC

After being busted up at Oregon in Week 4 and falling behind 21-0 to USC last week at home, it didn’t look good for Colorado. The Buffaloes got things together, however, though it was too late to catch the Trojans who were favored by three touchdowns in the 48-41 final.

It was a similar outcome for Arizona State in a 24-21 loss at Cal. The Sun Devils made it interesting as 13-point underdogs, but turnovers once again cost them.

Turnovers have killed ASU so far, and will hurt the Sun Devils again this week when Colorado bounces back into the win column with a cover.

NCAAF Pick: Colorado -4 (-110) at Bet365

Arizona Wildcats vs. USC Trojans

Saturday, October 7, 2023 – 10:30 PM EDT at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

The Week 6 college football betting card closes with what appears to be a mismatch as the USC Trojans take the field in Los Angeles to tangle with the Arizona Wildcats. Of course, we all know how looks can be deceiving.

Trojans Favored for 9th-Straight Meeting

Caesars Sportsbook has the Trojans installed as 21½-point favorites with 72 for the total.

It’s true that Southern Cal has won the last 10, but the odds have been deceiving with Arizona covering the last three as a double-digit ‘dog. The Wildcats were getting 22 when the rivals met at the LA Coliseum in 2021, and a 4th-quarter rally came up just a tad short in a 41-34 final. Totals have split the last four in Los Angeles.

Arizona ran up against Michael Penix Jr. and Washington last week, and must now face the reigning Heisman honoree in Caleb Williams. Southern Cal will win, but it’s another Wildcat cover in the rivalry to conclude our Week 6 free picks.

NCAAF Pick: Arizona +22 (-109) at SugarHouse
