Week 8 NCAA College Football Upset Alert: Vols Ready to Stun Bama

Each week throughout the college football season, OddsTrader scours the college football odds board and highlights three of the biggest potential upsets for that week’s NCAAF slate. These are underdogs that will not only cover the spread but are poised to pull the outright victory.

Last week Oklahoma State not only covered as 3½ point home dogs but brought home +195 on the moneyline to those who trusted the process. Let’s check out the college odds board in Week 8 and keep cashing our tickets!

Picks Summary

  • Tennessee (+285)
  • Oklahoma State ML (+125)
  • Boston College ML (+155)

Tennessee Volunteers vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

Saturday, October 21, 2023 – 03:30 PM EDT at Bryant-Denny Stadium

Stat Trifecta

  • Tennessee is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games.
  • Tennessee is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games played in October.
  • Tennessee is 7-1 SU in their last 8 games.

If you wagered on Alabama -19 over Arkansas last week then you have my condolences as the Crimson Tide squeaked out a 24-21 victory at home, never even sniffing a cover.

This year’s Alabama iteration has neither the same steam-rolling offense nor the tough-as-nails defense we have witnessed in recent years. Yet, the only blemish on their record is a 34-24 loss to Texas in which they were installed as 7-point home chalk.

Similarly, the Volunteers have only one loss on their record as well, a 29-16 setback at the Swamp when they bowed to Florida. Last week they dispatched Texas A&M, 20-13, which resembled Alabama’s six-point win over the Aggies earlier in the season.

These are two conference foes that are not far apart in talent, but the Tide is a far more familiar name, which means the public will bet on them regardless. Let’s watch the Vols pull the same kind of upset as they did last season when they defeated Bama, 52-49, as 9½ point home underdogs. Bet the Vols and cash a ticket!

NCAAF Pick: Tennessee +9 ½ (-110) at Caesars Sportsbook

NCAAF Pick: Tennessee ML (+285) at BetRivers

Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

Saturday, October 21, 2023 – 03:30 PM EDT at Milan Puskar Stadium

Stat Trifecta

  • Oklahoma State is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games against West Virginia.
  • Oklahoma State is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games played in October.
  • West Virginia is 1-4 SU in their last 5 games played in October.

They say there’s nothing sweeter than a repeater, which is one reason why we will go back to the same plentiful well as last week and back a gritty Oklahoma State squad. You may recall, that the Cowboys defeated Kansas, 39-32, last week as 3-point home dogs and brought back a +195 return on the moneyline for those who read this column last week.

Last year, West Virginia pulled a 24-19 upset of Oklahoma State at Stillwater as 5-point road underdogs. But although the venue has shifted to West Virginia, I like Oklahoma State in this spot as their passing offense, ranked 56th in the nation averaging 243.5 yards per game, is far superior to the Mountaineers’ 105th-ranked passing attack.

That’s important because the Mountaineers lean on their rushing game, ranked 34th in the nation, averaging 184 yards per game, and I can’t see them keeping pace with a solid Cowboys’ aerial attack that will see them winning this one outright on Saturday afternoon.

Let’s also keep in mind Oklahoma State is 7-1 against the number versus West Virginia over their last eight games in Morgantown.

NCAAF Pick: Oklahoma State +3 (-105) at BetRivers

NCAAF Pick: Oklahoma State ML (+125) at BetRivers

Boston College Eagles vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Saturday, October 21, 2023 – 12:00 PM EDT at Bobby Dodd Stadium

Stat Trifecta

  • Boston College is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against Georgia Tech.
  • Georgia Tech is 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games at home.
  • Georgia Tech is 1-8 SU in their last 9 games against an Atlantic Division opponent.

In this noontime matchup, we have a couple of middling ACC teams rekindling their rivalry in Atlanta, Georgia in which the sportsbooks have tagged the hometown Yellow Jackets as a 5-point favorite.

I believe that’s a bit steep considering they are both 3-3 on the season but the Eagles are 5-2 against the spread versus the Jackets over the last seven games and Georgia Tech is 1-10 ATS over their last 11 home games.

Boston College is coming off a hard-fought 27-24 road victory over Army as 2½ point underdogs while Georgia Tech stunned Miami in a 23-20 win as 19-point road pups, one in which Miami shot themselves in the foot while trying to run out the clock instead of kneeling.

The Yellow Jackets gained possession of a fumble and connected on a 44-yard Hail Mary pass with one second remaining to seal the improbable victory. That victory will undeniably be the highlight of a forgettable season and it wouldn’t surprise me one iota if the Jackets came out flat in this one.

NCAAF Pick: Boston College +5 (-110) at Bet365

NCAAF Pick: Boston College ML (+155) at BetRivers
