Minnesota Lynx vs. Seattle Storm

Wednesday, June 11, 2025 – 10:00 PM EDT at Climate Pledge Arena

The First Meeting

These two teams played each other on May 27. Seattle lost by five, but that game took place in Minnesota. With the Storm having home court advantage tonight, one has to expect them to play the Lynx even closer if they do not win.

This expectation is buttressed by an understanding of how the first game went. It is impressive that Seattle stayed within five points of Minnesota in that game because the Storm spotted the Lynx a 15-point lead after the first quarter.

A 15-point deficit after a quarter obviously puts the Storm as a big disadvantage. The point here is that one can’t expect such a start from them tonight, because their start in that game was uniquely bad. Instead of overcoming a 15-point deficit tonight, they’ll be beating their opponent.

The key is simply to come out with greater focus. In that game, they committed a ridiculous number of turnovers. At the 8:50 mark, Skylar Diggins made a bad pass. 32 seconds later, she made another one. About 20 seconds later, her teammate Gabby Williams made another one. The list goes on.

They cleaned up their game, though, showing that a focused effort is all they need to outscore their opponent by a significant margin.

Better, If Anything

If anything else significant changes from that game to this one, it will go better for the Storm. For example, they made 6 of their 24 three-point attempts in that game. Their three-point conversion rate can only improve tonight.

One might think, on the other hand, that Minnesota’s key scorer, Napheesa Collier, will improve. But there is a reason why she suffered her lowest scoring output of her season in that game. Collier had to contend with the defense of Nneka Ogwumike, who is a seven-time All-Defensive Team selection.

Her elite defense combats Collier’s scoring potential and makes it easier for her team to score enough points to win.

WNBA Pick: Storm +4 (-110) at Bet365

Dallas Wings vs. Phoenix Mercury

Wednesday, June 11, 2025 – 10:00 PM EDT at PHX Arena

Dallas’ Deficiency

Dallas lacks three-point shooters. Overall, the Wings have the fifth-worst three-point shooting percentage. While they get Paige Bueckers back tonight, she won’t help them in this crucial respect. She averages less than one made three per game.

To determine the outlook of their offense tonight, one therefore has to examine their ability to score inside the arc.

Phoenix’s Interior Defense

The Mercury defense has a positive outlook in this game because of the quality of its interior defense.

It’s not a coincidence that the two lowest point totals that they’ve allowed this year came against the two teams that attempt the fewest three-pointers — they limited Seattle to 59 points and Washington to 62 points.

When teams depend more heavily on scoring inside the arc — as Dallas does — then they struggle against this Phoenix defense that, more than almost every other team, dedicates itself to keeping teams from attempting field goals near the basket.

Dallas’ Awful Defense

It’s impossible to like the Wings when you don’t like their offense, because their defense is uniquely bad. Objectively put, the Wings have by far one of the worst defensive ratings. They lack players who offer reliable rim protection or who can guard opposing ball-handlers in space.

There is also a discord between the tactics that their coach wants to execute and the capabilities of their players, as evident in the numerous instances that opposing scorers have taken advantage of their forms of aggression, such as their blitzing. Because opponents regularly take advantage of the Dallas defense, they are uniquely efficient against it.

Expect Phoenix to thrive behind the arc with efficient shooters like Kitija Laksa, but also inside the arc with star Satou Sabally as well as key second-leading scorer Alyssa Thomas, who is reportedly slated to return tonight.

WNBA Pick: Mercury -6.5 (-110) at Bet365

Los Angeles Sparks vs. Las Vegas Aces

Wednesday, June 11, 2025 – 10:00 PM EDT at Michelob ULTRA Arena

Key Spot

The situation favors the Aces tonight. They are in a bounce-back spot after they lost their last game.

So far this season, they are 2-0 after a loss. In those two games, they won at Connecticut by 25 points on May 20 and, on May 30, beat the Sparks by 15 points.

The Sparks are an ideal opponent for Las Vegas because they tend to give up high-scoring totals and, on offense, disappear for long stretches of play, as evident in various low-scoring quarters that they’ve experienced throughout this season.

Las Vegas was embarrassed by an inferior opponent in its last game, so this is the best possible bounce-back spot for it.

WNBA Pick: Aces -10 (-105) at Bet365
