The Contenders

Buffalo Bills NFL quarterback Josh Allen

Buffalo Bills

  • Projected Record: 12-5
  • Win Total: Over 11 ½ wins (-120)
  • Odds to Win the AFC East: (-180)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+400)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+700) at PointsBet

The Bills have it all. An already ferocious defense that added Von Miller and an elite quarterback in Josh Allen with more weapons than a Swiss army knife.

But the first half of their season is no joke with a season-opening date in LA playing the defending Super Bowl champs followed by games against the Titans, Dolphins, Ravens, and Chiefs in hostile territory.

The Bills will then welcome the Packers to Buffalo, further evidence the early road won’t be easy but this team is stacked nonetheless and are favorites according to the Super Bowl LVII odds.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • Projected Record: 11-6
  • Win Total: Over 11 ½ wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the NFC South: (-286)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+340)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+1100) at FanDuel

Tom Terrific retired to spend some time with his kids, found out he hated it, and is back in the ring to take another swing.

The Bucs’ offense is very much intact, with the exception of Rob Gronkowski who bid adieu to the NFL once again, however, the Bucs did acquire another weapon in Russell Gage.

Tampa’s defense still looks suspect but a solid draft and a decent offseason make them the top choice to dethrone the Rams as NFC champs.

Kansas City Chiefs

  • Projected Record: 11-6
  • Win Total: Over 10 ½ wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the AFC West: (+175)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+600)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+1150) at SBK

If you lose a dynamic player like Tyreek Hill, you don’t get better. And that’s the state of affairs concerning the Kansas City Chiefs this season.

Patrick Mahomes is good enough to win games all by himself but the Chiefs have a brutal schedule ahead of them. If they win 11 games this year it should be considered a successful season.

Los Angeles Rams

  • Projected Record: 12-5
  • Win Total: Over 10 ½ wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the NFC West: (+140)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+500)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+1200) at BetMGM

The Rams are also returning with their formidable offense pretty much unscathed. Robert Woods departed and OBJ is in limbo but the sublime Cooper Kupp will be catching passes from the newly-minted Super Bowl starting quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Meanwhile, adding Allen Robinson to the mix and seeing the return of running back Cam Akers will also bear fruit for the champs. Their defense is led by All-World rusher Aaron Donald and another ring for the Rams wouldn’t surprise us despite the departures of Von Miller and Andrew Whitworth.

Green Bay Packers NFL Football

Green Bay Packers

  • Projected Record: 13-4
  • Win Total: Over 11 wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the NFC North: (-170)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+500)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+1350) at Caesars Sportsbook

Aaron Rodgers held the Packers up for an enormous payday and the team caved. But after putting pen to paper, Green Bay traded away Rodgers’s shiniest toy, the elite Davante Adams to the Raiders which will take some of the sting out of the Packers’ offense.

Rodgers will have to hope that Sammy Watkins and a second-round pick, Christian Watson, will pick up some of the slack but the Packers’ offense will not be as lethal without Adams.

Nevertheless, the scheduling gods smiled down upon the Packers which should set up another Super Bowl-contending Green Bay squad.

Los Angeles Chargers

  • Projected Record: 11-6
  • Win Total: Over 10 wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the AFC West: (+250)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+850)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+1600) at Caesars Sportsbook

Justin Herbert is the real deal and he will enjoy another big season with Mike Williams, Keenan Allen, and Austin Ekeler at his disposal. Add to that an already stout defense improved with the additions of Khalil Mack and J.C. Jackson.

A difficult NFL schedule is in store for the Bolts but they could be a sharp bet to go very far this year.

San Francisco 49ers

  • Projected Record: 11-6
  • Win Total: Over 10 wins (+100)
  • Odds to Win the NFC West: (+200)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+800)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+1700) at PointsBet

If you believe a kid from an FCS school is the Chosen One then you will be optimistic about the 49ers’ future.

However, the verdict is still out on Trey Lance, and expecting big things out of San Francisco is a crapshoot at this point, especially considering Deebo Samuel is unhappy and wants out of town. Too many question marks here.

Denver Broncos

  • Projected Record: 10-7
  • Win Total: Over 10 wins (-120)
  • Odds to Win the AFC West: (+275)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+900)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+1850) at Caesars Sportsbook

Russell Wilson is coming to Mile High but is he the elixir the Broncos need to take them to the next level? It remains to be seen but Courtland Sutton is expected to have a big year after recovering from a torn ACL while Jerry Jeudy and Tim Patrick could surprise if they make their anticipated strides.

The defense will be tougher assuming they remain healthy after a 2021 campaign in which they were ravaged. Denver is another top-tier talent in a stacked AFC West.

Baltimore Ravens NFL quarterback Lamar Jackson
Quarterback Lamar Jackson 8 of the Baltimore Ravens stiff arms outside linebacker Kyzir White 44 of the Los Angeles Chargers Patrick SmithGetty ImagesAFP

Baltimore Ravens

  • Projected Record: 7-10
  • Win Total: Over 9 ½ wins (-130)
  • Odds to Win the AFC North: (+200)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+1200)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+2200) at BetRivers

By most accounts, the Ravens had an excellent draft class with a boatload of picks but the one key area they neglected was one they shouldn’t have ignored.

The Ravens failed to get a replacement for Marquise Brown, whom they wheeled to the Cardinals on draft day. Lamar Jackson had 16 passing TDs to 13 picks last season and now has a potpourri of no-name receivers. Not a winning combination.

Cincinnati Bengals

  • Projected Record: 11-6
  • Win Total: Over 9 ½ wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the AFC North: (+200)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+1300)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+2400) at Unibet

The Bengals went big on D in the draft and still have Joe Cool pulling the trigger. Last year’s AFC champs are undervalued and underappreciated this season.

This is one bet worth making across the board but get them while there is still value in the numbers.

Dallas Cowboys

  • Projected Record: 12-5
  • Win Total: Over 10 wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the NFC East: (+130)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+850)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+2400) at Unibet

The Cowboys will compete for the Super Bowl LVII title this season and it would not surprise us a bit if they won it.

Yes, they are that good after picking up several defensive pieces that will make this team a bona fide NFC powerhouse with a legitimate top-five quarterback in Dak Prescott under center. Huge value here.

Indianapolis Colts

  • Projected Record: 10-7
  • Win Total: Over 10 wins (-102)
  • Odds to Win the AFC South: (-105)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+1400)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+2500) at SugarHouse

The Colts have a positively punishing rusher in Jonathan Taylor and now add a veteran under center in Matt Ryan.

We saw what Matty Ice could do when he had the pieces around him a few years ago in Atlanta when he guided the Falcons to within an overtime of a Super Bowl title. But outside of Michael Pittman Jr. who does Ryan have to throw to?

The Pretenders

Philadelphia Eagles NFL quarterback Jalen Hurts

Philadelphia Eagles

  • Projected Record: 10-7
  • Win Total: Over 9 ½ wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the NFC East: (+200)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+1400)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+3000) at Bet365

Jalen Hurts now has two seriously talented receivers at his disposal with DeVonta Smith and the recently acquired A.J. Brown.

The Eagles also bolstered their defense which could prove to be an interesting season in Philly.

Cleveland Browns

  • Projected Record: 6-11
  • Win Total: Over 9 ½ wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the AFC North: (+275)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+1300)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+3900) at MaximBet

There is still pending civil litigation against Deshaun Watson as four of the reportedly 24 accusers have refused to settle.

The NFL jealously guards its image and is expected to back the bus up on, and over, Watson which could manifest in a full-season suspension. If you have to bet on the Browns then jump on the fade train and go under.

Arizona Cardinals

  • Projected Record: 7-10
  • Win Total: Over 8 ½ wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the NFC West: (+400)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+2000)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+4100) at FanDuel

The Cardinals’ top receiver last season, Christian Kirk, has departed and DeAndre Hopkins will serve a six-game suspension.

But Marquise Brown was acquired to reunite with his Sooners teammate, Kyler Murray, which should add some salve to those wounds. The defense is still a liability.

Miami Dolphins

  • Projected Record: 7-10
  • Win Total: Over 8 ½ wins (-125)
  • Odds to Win the AFC East: (+450)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+2000)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+4500) at Caesars Sportsbook

Tough schedule but we will find out if the Miami quarterback is worthy of the twin terrors at his disposal in the forms of the immaculate Tyreek Hill and burgeoning superstar Jaylen Waddle.

Tennessee Titans

  • Projected Record: 9-8
  • Win Total: Over 9 wins (+100)
  • Odds to Win the AFC South: (+170)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+1800)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+4500) at BetMGM

The Titans won’t have A.J. Brown catching passes after dealing him away for what resulted in Treylon Burks (18th overall) as his replacement.

Robert Woods was also added to the roster but Tannehill is enigmatic and pass blocking could be an issue.

Las Vegas Raiders

  • Projected Record: 8-9
  • Win Total: Over 8 ½ wins (-115)
  • Odds to Win the AFC West: (+700)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+2500)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+4500) at PointsBet

The addition of Davante Adams should shake things up in Raider Nation as Derek Carr will have an elite pass-catcher to employ.

The defense will be improved as well but playing in the AFC West is no picnic.

The Longshots

Mac Jones New England Patriots NFL Football

New England Patriots

  • Projected Record: 8-9
  • Win Total: Over 8 ½ wins (-115)
  • Odds to Win the AFC East: (+400)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+2500)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+5000) at FanDuel

“Strange” draft to be sure. Mac Jones is expected to get better but does he have the weapons to make it happen?

Minnesota Vikings

  • Projected Record: 10-7
  • Win Total: Over 9 wins (-115)
  • Odds to Win the NFC North: (+300)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+2000)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+5000) at BetRivers

Any team with Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson, and Adam Thielen has a puncher’s chance.

New Orleans Saints

  • Projected Record: 8-9
  • Win Total: Over 8 ½ wins (-105)
  • Odds to Win the NFC South: (+500)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+2200)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+5000) at BetRivers

Was last year’s cautious and, dare we say cerebral, Jameis Winston for real before he got hurt? We shall see.

Pittsburgh Steelers

  • Projected Record: 5-12
  • Win Total: Over 7 ½ wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the AFC North: (+900)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+5000)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+9000) at FanDuel

No Ben – no good – in the Steel City this season.

Washington Commanders

  • Projected Record: 6-11
  • Win Total: Over 8 wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the NFC East: (+500)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+3300)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+9900) at BetRivers

Carson Wentz gets his last bite at the apple as a starter while Chase Young needs to be much better than he was in his injury-plagued 2021 campaign.

Jacksonville Jaguars

  • Projected Record: 5-12
  • Win Total: Over 6 wins (-120)
  • Odds to Win the AFC South: (+700)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+6500)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+14,900) at FanDuel

Trevor Lawrence gets a new weapon in Christian Kirk but pass protection is the key to any anticipated improvement in his game.

Detroit Lions NFL football fan

Detroit Lions

  • Projected Record: 4-13
  • Win Total: Over 6 ½ wins (-105)
  • Odds to Win the NFC North: (+500)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+6600)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+15,000) at BetRivers

Detroit’s No. 2 overall chaos-maker Aidan Hutchinson could be the only reason to watch the toothless Lions this season.

New York Jets

  • Projected Record: 3-13
  • Win Total: Over 6 wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the AFC East: (+2200)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+8500)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+15,500) at FanDuel

According to the experts, the Jets had a sensational draft. Unfortunately, those who bleed green have heard similar refrains while the Jets remain without the franchise quarterback they have been so desperately seeking since Joe Willie.

New York Giants

  • Projected Record: 7-10
  • Win Total: Over 7 wins (+105)
  • Odds to Win the NFC East: (+900)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+6000)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+16,900) at MaximBet

The Giants cleaned house in the offseason because it was absolutely filthy and drafted a monster at No. 7 overall in Evan Neal to protect the disappointing Daniel Jones who may be cut loose after this season.

Chicago Bears

  • Projected Record: 4-13
  • Win Total: Over 6 ½ wins (-110)
  • Odds to Win the NFC North: (+1300)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+6600)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+16,900) at BetRivers

Justin Fields needs help desperately and the front office gave him none in the offseason. Watch these Bears get mauled this year.

Seattle Seahawks

  • Projected Record: 4-13
  • Win Total: Over 5 ½ wins (-135)
  • Odds to Win the NFC West: (+2000)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+7000)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+26,900) at Caesars Sportsbook

Geno Smith or Drew Lock will be replacing Russell Wilson. Let that sink in.

Carolina Panthers

  • Projected Record: 2-15
  • Win Total: Over 5 ½ wins (-125)
  • Odds to Win the NFC South: (+1300)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+7000)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+27,900) at Caesars Sportsbook

The Sam Darnold era will be over after this season while Christian McCaffrey will waste another one of his prime years in a losing situation.

Houston Texans

  • Projected Record: 1-16
  • Win Total: Over 4 ½ wins (-105)
  • Odds to Win the AFC South: (+4500)
  • Odds to Win the AFC: (+15,000)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+49,900) at Bet365

The Texans drafted an elite cornerback in LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr. That is all.

Atlanta Falcons

  • Projected Record: 3-14
  • Win Total: Over 4 ½ wins (+100)
  • Odds to Win the NFC South: (+2500)
  • Odds to Win the NFC: (+15,000)
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl LVII: (+49,900) at BetRivers

Marcus Mariota scrambling for his life should make the Falcons worth watching even when they’re losing. But other than Kyle Pitts, this team needs upgrades at virtually every position.
