How to Bet the 2022 World Series: Is Bryce Harper for MVP a Valuable Option?

The World Series will begin on Friday, October 28. We’ve got the best team in the American League facing off against the last team to make it into the National League. So of course, the AL team is a favorite to win the World Series over the NL team.

The Houston Astros are the AL team. They’ll get a home-field advantage. They will play two games in Houston, three games in Philadelphia, and two more games in Houston.

If the series goes seven games, the Astros will have the final home game. Meanwhile, if the Phillies earn an upset in Houston early in the first two games, home-field advantage will turn to Philadelphia. But that’s going to be difficult knowing that Houston hasn’t lost a single game in the MLB postseason.

Following the MLB odds available at the best sportsbooks, here’s how to bet on the 2022 World Series.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Houston Astros

World Series Round

Friday, October 28, 2022 – Saturday, November 05, 2022

How to Bet the 2022 World Series

If you’re looking to bet on the 2022 World Series, you’re probably better off betting on a game-to-game basis. You’ll see less juice and you can change your mind in the middle of the series.

Let’s say you like the Astros to win the World Series but watch the first two games and change your mind. Then you can bet the Phillies in Game 3 without being strapped down, knowing you have an Astros futures ticket. The higher odds will always attract the public, but that’s why the public struggles to win.

For example, in the first game of the series, the Astros will send out Justin Verlander to go up against Aaron Nola of the Phillies. Both of these pitchers are capable of throwing shutouts. Verlander is going to win the AL Cy Young this year, while Nola has been incredible throughout the second half of the season.

What if Nola beats Verlander as a +140 underdog? The Phillies to win the World Series are at +160. But you can cash a +140 in the first game if you like Nola to earn the win.

Phillies Are There for a Reason

Philadelphia’s starting rotation is very good at the front, with Nola and Wheeler. Then they’ll head home where the Phillies will be much more comfortable.

The Astros certainly have more depth with their pitching. But if Nola or Wheeler can steal one from the Astros, they’ll have a really good chance at winning the World Series.

My first advice is, again, to bet on the series game-to-game and don’t get lost in the futures market for the World Series.

World Series Props

If you’re looking for more enjoyment than profit, there are so many fun and intriguing markets to look at. You can bet on the correct series score or try and bet on the MVP. The hold on these types of bets is ridiculous. They’re not profitable bets, but they’re fun futures to hold onto.

It’s seriously hard to predict the series’ correct score without knowing how each starting rotation will play out. We have a sense but don’t know for sure. The Astros haven’t even announced their Game 2 pitcher yet for Saturday. But I think the Phillies can earn one on the road with Nola and Wheeler on the mound.

Don’t Let Yourself Go

On paper, the Astros are the better team. They also haven’t lost a game yet. You can view this in two different ways:

• The first way would be that the Astros are due to lose. They’ve been on the ropes multiple times and had wacky comebacks and crazy 18-inning wins.

• The other way to look at this is by thinking that the Astros are red hot and nobody can beat them.

But let’s be fair here. The Mariners and Yankees aren’t the best offenses in baseball. The Yankees couldn’t even string together six or more hits in a game against the Astros in the playoffs. The Phillies will.

Betting on the MVP

Looking to bet on the MVP? You first need to figure out which team you like to win the World Series. If you like the Astros, you wouldn’t take Bryce Harper to win the World Series MVP. If you like the Phillies, you wouldn’t grab Yordan Alvarez to win the award either.

Currently, Bryce Harper is +600 to win the award while Yordan Alvarez is +650 to win the award. Harper has higher odds to win, despite the Phillies sitting at +160 to win the World Series.

More Value Than You Think

Harper has been playing extremely good baseball and has led the team through the postseason.

If you think the Phillies win the World Series because of Harper, betting on Harper to win the World Series MVP could be a much higher payout if the Phillies win than taking the Phillies to win the World Series at +160.

Of course, it’s not guaranteed that Harper will win the MVP if the team wins the World Series. But it’s the most likely outcome if the Phillies do win the World Series.

Keep that in mind when betting on the World Series.
