LIV Invitational at Boston – Best Bets and Props

Today we’re looking into our best bets and predictions for the LIV Golf Invitational event, taking place this weekend in Boston.

The International Golf Course is situated just under fifty miles from the city of Boston. The International is a twin 18-hole track venture, the Oaks and the Pines.

The Oaks course is the track of choice, and we can expect tightish tree-lined fairways to the pristine Bentgrass greens at a length of 7138 yards and a par 72.

2022 LIV Golf Invitational Series

Friday, September 2 to Sunday, September 4, 2022 – The International, Oaks Golf Course

There’s another twist this week with six newcomers to strengthen the field:

  • Cameron Smith
  • Joaquin Niemann
  • Mark Leishman
  • Cameron Tringale
  • Anirban Lahiri
  • Harold Varner

Will There Be Another Long-Shot Winner This Week?

Yes, that’s a very good question and it’s entirely plausible that the nature of how the LIV Golf League was formed is shaping the winners and their motivation.

Many of the leading protagonists were paid up-front in huge amounts and reports are mixed as to whether they received the advertised prize money, or it is taken off their guarantee.

If indeed, those leading players are not receiving prize money, it means their motivation for playing the event is less than that of players whose up-front payment was smaller but have the chance to quickly, out-earn their guarantee, or indeed just earn.

The three winners of the events so far and $4,000,000 in first prize money each time were

  • Charl Schwartzel at +4000
  • Brendan Grace at +3300
  • Henrik Stenson at +5000

That evidence would suggest that could be the case.

Where to Start When Looking for This Week’s Winner?

For me, I like to look into events at courses, that correlate whether on a local level or just general agronomy.

This Points to a Good Chance for Kevin Na

The name that leaped to the top of my list when looking into similar tracks was Kevin Na. Firstly, I looked into events at the local TPC Boston which seems similar in agronomy as well as the same Bentgrass greens. His name didn’t leap off the page then, but he’d regularly be featured in the top 20 at the TPC Boston.

My next port of call was looking through my list of golfers who play well in events that feature Bentgrass greens. The Shriners Open was on a TPC and Kevin Na features strongly there as a two-time champion so fits the scenario snuggly.

Unibet has Kevin Na at +6600 and that’s a great price for a proven winner for the LIV Golf Invitational in Boston.

Reedy Is Always Ready, Willing, and Able!

I noticed a few weeks ago that former Masters champion Patrick Reed was keeping himself busy on the Asian Tour. That’s nothing new for Patrick Reed who has been one of the hardest working professionals and always has a more grueling schedule than his compatriots.

That competitive practice could serve him well this week in Boston, an area he’s played well previously, in 2016 and 2015 when he had top 5 finishes at the TPC Boston.

If there was a slight worry for the thirty-two-year-old from Texas, it’s his putting ability on Bentgrass greens, with the surface not being his preferred type but regardless, his consistency makes him a solid pick in the place markets.

He debuted the LIV circuit at Bedminster with a top 5 finish and that’s not surprising given Patrick Reed is always ready, willing, and able to play anywhere at any course. He’s also a proven winner so don’t be frightened to add him to your best golf bets at Bet365 this week.

Is Hudson a Long Shot With a Chance?

When looking through the TPC Boston form, Hudson Swafford is a name that kept cropping up.

The thirty-four-year-old from Florida is that sort of player, capable of popping up at a huge price. He did that at the start of the year in the Career Builder Challenge at the price of +25000.

I remember because I tipped and backed the Florida man. Remarkably, that was his second win in the event and a third PGA Tour title for the thirty-four-year-old.

Yes, Hudson Swafford is an inconsistent golfer but there’s ample compensation in his price for a player who knows how to win. Take the long shot price of +15000 with BetMGM about Hudson Swafford winning this week’s LIV Invitational at Boston combined with a top 5 finish.
