The Canadiens are currently hanging onto the final playoff position in the Eastern Conference, with the NY Rangers on their tail.
A win tonight would massively increase the Canadiens’ chances of making the playoffs; in fact, it would bring their playoff chances from 84% to 96% because of the limited games remaining.
Tonight’s opponents only have a 4.6% chance of making the post-season, and their form heading into this encounter has been mixed, having gone 8-12 in their previous 20 games but 3-1 in their last four.
Montreal is almost certain to make the playoffs this season, but a win tonight would pretty much guarantee it. The Canadiens should be up for this one on home ice and can all but guarantee their post-season with a win.
