With just three games on tonight’s card, we have come up with two selections we really like following our OddsTrader’s computer picks.
Check out why we are investing in these two NHL picks for tonight’s action.
Dallas Stars vs. St. Louis Blues
Wednesday, April 12, 2023 – 07:30 PM EDT at Enterprise Center
Dallas Can Still Win Division
Following a 6-1 run over their previous seven games, the Dallas Stars have put themselves into a position to potentially win their division and also pick up second place in the Western Conference.
The Stars trail the Avalanche by one point, and with both teams having two games left to play, they could potentially pip them to the post as they face a doubleheader against the Blues whilst Colorado plays two difficult games in the Nashville Predators and Winnipeg Jets.
This will be the Stars’ 3rd game in five nights whilst opponents St. Louis will only be heading into their second game in five nights.
Inconsistent Blues
St. Louis has been the best version of inconsistent as one could be, having gone 8-7 over their previous 15 games, and 7-8 in their previous 15 home games. Both teams have even had a 50% win rate over their previous ten games head-to-head.
The Blues officially set their sight on rebuilding for the future when they traded away Vladimir Tarasenko and Ryan O’Reilly.
Their season is almost over, and with this being their last game on home ice, they could spring a surprise as their current odds to win are +145 on the moneyline, which isn’t bad for a home team in their final home game of the season.
The Pick
It’s tempting to take the Blues to cash this one on home ice, but our computer is predicting a 4-2 victory for the Dallas Stars, so we will respect its predictions and encouragingly take the under 6.5 goals at -121.
We initially liked this game to go under, and we are more than happy to bet the under 6.5 for -121, as we anticipated the odds on this market to be around -140. The Dallas Stars have seen a 25-15 record on the road this season to the under 6.5 total line.
There is a small value here. Let’s take advantage of it.
NHL Pick: Under 6.5 (-115) at BetMGM
San Jose Sharks vs. Calgary Flames
Wednesday, April 12, 2023 – 10:00 PM EDT at Scotiabank Saddledome
Sharks Have Nothing to Lose
The San Jose Sharks come into this game with no worries. Their season was over before it began with their poor start to the year, and after trading away Timo Meier the writing was on the wall.
San Jose has nothing to lose here. They most likely won’t be motivated to win, but sometimes you don’t even need to be, as the other team can lead to its own downfall.
Calgary Could Be Dejected
Hopes were high when the Flames faced the Nashville Predators needing to win to stay in the playoff race, but a 3-2 penalty shootout loss eventually lead to their exclusion from this year’s playoffs.
We could be wrong, but we also could be right in believing that the Calgary Flames will come into this home game with their tail between their legs.
The Flames rank only 11th best on home ice in the Western Conference.
The Pick
Although the Calgary Flames might eventually wake up from their disappointment and feel bad for themselves to win this game, we are more than happy to get involved with San Jose to win the 1st period at +150 with Bet365.
The San Jose Sharks have been -2.5 units on the moneyline in the first period this season compared to Calgary -10 units. Against the spread, San Jose has the 5th best ranked in the league in the 1st period, whilst Calgary has the worst.
Our computer predicts a 4-2 Flames win. Maybe they do so, but all we care about is the 1st-period winner.
