Super Bowl LVI is set for this Sunday and the anticipation is growing as we head into the final week before the game. Fans in both cities are wired and cannot wait for game day to arrive.

Many football bettors feel the same way, but they need to be wise before the day of the game. With that, we present our Do’s and Don’ts for betting the Super Bowl each and every year.

Do Bet This First

The NFL odds came out last week and often, there are minor adjustments on the side and total. If you have not already wagered on the game, make certain you have done your homework as you would on any other contest during this season.

Have a strong rationale for your selection and if you like the number, grab it now.

Don’t Make This Your Biggest Bet of the Season

A common mistake among those making NFL picks is just because it is the biggest game of the season, it’s not the best bet of the season. The top sportsbooks and wise guys will make certain the spread bet and total are correct from a betting perspective.

That will make the number essentially correct. In turn, in terms of betting value, there really isn’t any and your selection(s) are based on your research. That means your wagers should be nothing more than normal bets.

Do Set a Budget of How Much You Can Lose

A common mistake by bettors is they are too geeked up for the game. They might normally wager a few hundred dollars each week, but because they are swept up in the emotion of the moment, they’ll go two, three or more times what they normally bet.

If you bet a budget, that creates discipline. Winning money is never the issue, it’s they losing that matters.

Do Make Prop Bets, Just Make Sure They are Fact-Based

One of the most fun activities of betting the Super Bowl is prop betting. There are literally hundreds to choose from and if your timing is right, there is value in a large number of them if you do your research early enough and can catch some bad numbers that are wrong.

If you want to make a series of prop wagers, make certain they fall within your budget and don’t go overboard.

One last thing to remember. If you made a side and total wager, you should have in your mind how the game should play out. When making prop bets, your bets should model that thinking.

If you get to halftime and all looks hopeless, it’s best to have some food, and drinks and not chase your losses. There will be NBA, college basketball and hockey to place bets on Monday.

Don’t Do In-Game Betting Unless You Have Previous Experience

With the multitude of commercials on TV and radio, they make it sound like it’s so easy to win at sports betting. One aspect that will be heavily promoted is in-game betting. It sounds so fun, you open up the app, find some appealing bets and fire away.

If you have the experience and knowledge of placing such bets, that is not a problem, as long as you know your financial limits.

However, many don’t and they quickly find out it can become confusing and the numbers and odds you want to bet can change in seconds by the time you place your bets.

This can be frustrating and you could end up losing more because of the shifting odds. If you have never placed in-game bets, Super Bowl Sunday is not the day to start.

Make Sure to Have Fun

Super Bowl Sunday is an American tradition and should be treated that way. Whatever wagering you do might not make you pleased with the outcomes, but it should not alter your mood 180 degrees either.

Above all, have fun! And remember to check back for more betting strategy at the OddsTrader blog. Happy betting!
