Montreal Canadiens vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Thursday, February 16, 2023 – 07:00 PM EST at PNC Arena

This is pretty much as bad as things can get right now for the Montreal Canadiens on the injury front as they have a total of 9 players missing; most of them are starting players. This includes Cole Caufield who had scored 36 points in 46 games prior to his injury. Their top scorer right now is Nick Suzuki who has 42 points in 54 games.

Scoring 2.67 goals per game and allowing 3.60, it’s going to be a very difficult task for this Canadiens team to win at the PNC Arena tonight.

The Carolina Hurricanes are leading the Metropolitan Division by three points and are chasing down the Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes enjoy being the home team having gone 11-4 across their last 15. The Hurricanes have the 10th-best goals-against record in the league and the 7th-best for goals in favor.

The opposite can be said of the Montreal Canadiens in terms of road games, having gone 4-11 in their previous 15, and even more worrying, they lost back-to-back games at the PNC Arena 4-0 prior to tonight’s matchup. It’s almost unheard of for a team to not score two games in a row at the same arena.

The Pick

The computer is predicting a very easy 5-2 Carolina Hurricanes win, and to be honest, although we disagree and believe it will be 4-1, that still ties us into the same bet as we are taking the Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 at -120.

It’s juice we don’t like laying for this market but this scenario and set of NHL odds are giving us some small value right now. We would play this down to -135.

Score Prediction: Montreal Canadiens 2 – Carolina Hurricanes 5

NHL Pick: Hurricanes -1.5 (-120) at BetRivers

San Jose Sharks vs. Vegas Golden Knights

Thursday, February 16, 2023 – 10:00 PM EST at T-Mobile Arena

It’s one solid defense facing a very shaky defense in this Pacific Division clash between the San Jose Sharks and Vegas Golden Knights. Previous games between these two teams have been a lot of fun, having seen an average of 7.2 goals per game across their previous five meetings.

The Golden Knights have started to ramp things up having gone 3-0 in their previous three games and look to take control of a Western Conference battle that has been floundering as of late. But the Golden Knights might be about to take control as they find themselves just three points behind the leaders Dallas with one game in hand.

The Pick

The Golden Knights have been on fire in their 3-0 winning streak, scoring a total of 17 goals and allowing only four. It’s hard to believe they are going to underwhelm now on home ice in a division game that they are desperate to win, against a very winnable San Jose team.

The Sharks have gone 12-18 away from home this season and our computer predicts it will get worse for them with a 4-2 victory for the Golden Knights. We are loving the plus money at NHL odds of +130 for the Sin City team to win this one by 2+ goals.

The Sharks beat the Golden Knights 7-3 and 5-2 in their previous two visits to the T-Mobile Arena. We can’t see them getting lucky a third time around. Win or lose this is a strong bet with the Knights being red hot right now and on home ice.

Score Prediction: San Jose Sharks 2 – Vegas Golden Knights 4

NHL Pick: Golden Knights -1.5 (+130) at BetMGM
