In a monumental announcement that shook the boxing world in March 2024, Jake Paul, a rising star in the sport, revealed his daring decision to step into the ring with none other than the legendary heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson.

November 15 is the date when Netflix will make its boxing debut and have the honor of streaming the event, and as the weeks go by, the reality of this inconceivable contest becomes more real.

The highly anticipated co-main event bout rematch between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor supports the card. Still, unfortunately, it’s been overshadowed by Tyson and Paul thus far due to the insane matchup, which hopes to blow the roof off the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Before heading into the top-rated sportsbooks, let’s take a closer look at some of the details behind the bout’s rules.

WHEN IS THE JAKE PAUL VS. MIKE TYSON FIGHT?

  • When: Friday, November 15, 2024
  • Time: 09:00 PM ET
  • Where: AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas
  • How to Watch: Netflix

Initially, the word ‘exhibition’ was thrown around, and in the world of boxing, it’s a tainted word that fans of the sport want no part of. However, in recent weeks, it’s been announced that Paul and Tyson will be documented and judged as a professional bout, and these boxing rumors have sparked more questions than answers.

On that note, join us as we evaluate the rules for Paul vs. Tyson, including a review of the latest odds and the overall betting impact of this highly anticipated fight.

A Closer Look at the Rules

The heavyweight legend will enter the ring on November 15 as a 58-year-old man. Paul is 27 and has actively competed in the sport for four years.

Due to these factors, many critics were surprised when the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the regulatory body of combat sports in Texas, sanctioned the Tyson vs. Paul contest as a professional bout.

Knockouts are possible, and should the fight go the distance, judges will declare a winner via a professional scoring system. Also, the result will be reflected on each fighter’s pro record, just as in any professional contest. However, while it’s been sanctioned and promoted as a pro-fight, some of the rules have consistently been debated since.

The implemented rules of Paul vs. Tyson are as follows:

  • No headgear.
  • 14oz gloves will be worn.
  • The bout will be fought over eight two-minute rounds.
  • The contest will count towards both fighters’ pro record.

The typical size gloves in professional boxing bouts are 10oz. The 14oz gloves Paul and Tyson will use are commonly used during sparring sessions to protect fighters from unnecessary knockouts and injury.

It’s likely that the extra padding and heavier gloves have assisted Tyson’s clearance to compete at such an old age and have also nullified the dangers for Paul, who’ll be competing in his first-ever heavyweight bout, one against a renowned heavy-hitter.

Fans and critics have claimed that a legitimate professional bout should be fought with 10-oz gloves over three-minute rounds, so the shorter two-minute rounds have also raised the legitimacy of the fight as a true professional contest.

Odds for the Paul vs. Tyson Fight

Since Paul’s hypothetical odds opened as a -360, interest is certainly swaying with Tyson despite his position as an underdog. However, considering the age of Tyson and the fact that he quit on the stool in his last pro bout against a journeyman, Kevin McBride, in 2005, don’t expect to see a much lower price on ‘Iron Mike’ than what’s currently available, especially if sharp sportsbooks get the opportunity to hammer Paul’s moneyline.
